Job Description

Position Overview:

Several positions for medical coders are available for the following specialties: surgery and orthorpedic coding.

Essential Functions:

• Provider or Profee medical coding.
• Resolve related coding issues in all phases: production, coding scrub, and coding denial resolution.
• Maintain consistent quality using the established coding guidelines provided you by the immediate supervisor.
• Performs ongoing prospective coding and documentation chart reviews for physician services to ensure that the coding supports the services billed.
• Identifies issues and patterns related to coding.
• Selects and assigns the appropriate ICD-10 CPT codes, based on chart review documentation.
• Participates in on-going mandatory compliance training.
• Stays up-to-date with compliance on federal, state health care laws, regulations, and rules.
• Reports any differentiation from institutional or departmental procedures.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with proven ability to apply creative approaches to complicated questions.
• Other assigned duties/tasks
• Meet QA guidelines consistently maintain a 95% accuracy rate

PREFERED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Must have an AAPC CPC certification.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and medical terminology.
• Will use Athena.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
• Experience level: 3+ years.

Work environment:

• A standard business environment exists with moderate noise levels.
• Ability to lift and move approximately thirty (30) pounds on a non-routine basis.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Long periods of computer usage
• Handling – seizing, holding, grasping and fingering of objects, tools and controls
• Vision – close vision
• Hearing- ability to receive detailed information through oral and telephonic communication
